Great Hill – Omni Installation

by DQ on August 31, 2010

Key facts:

  • 100 amp gell cell batteries are 74 pounds heavy.
  • A baseball bat 19 feet long is hard to swing.
  • all connections that will be out in the weather need to be well sealed

Today in the August heat we transported 6 batteries, attendant cables and interconnects and the 900 Mhz Omni antenna up to the Great Hill Fire Tower and installed them. The best way to get the batteries up into their box on the platform was to hoist them up with a pulley. After they were up and connected, we moved on to the long antenna. I had to put the camera down to help wrestle it into place, but there is a video of the drama, and I’ll post it soon.
